Recycling Contest –  The STEM HELIOS Club is having a homeroom recycling contest running for the next week. The homeroom with the most plastic bottles or aluminum cans will win a prize! Contest ends Friday 11/17.

 

Recycling Fact - Heating water can account for 14 to 25 percent of the energy consumed in your home. Turn down the temperature of your water heater to save energy (and avoid a surprise faucet-scalding).

 

STEM HELIOS Club - Mandatory Meeting during the first 5 minutes of lunch TODAY!  Come to the meeting first, then go eat. Room C-19

 

ART CLUB is cancelled for today. We will meet the first Thursday in December, 12-7.

 

Spanish Club - Members that signed up for the parade, please come by Room 28 at the beginning of lunch to pick up a permission slip that must be returned on Friday.  We will practice at lunch when we return from break.  Thank you to all that signed up! ~Mrs. Santos and Ms. Ontiveros

Boys Basketball Tryouts - 8th grade boys basketball tryouts will take place today at 4:15 pm. 7th grade boys basketball tryouts will take place again tomorrow at 4:15 pm.

 

Hats and Beanies - The only hats and/or beanies that are allowed to be worn on the DMS campus are the Dutcher hats and beanies that can be purchased in the office.

 

DMS Hoodies – The last day to order your DMS Hoodie is tomorrow. Order forms can be picked up in the office or printed from the DMS website.

 

Sports - Congratulations to our 6th grade girls basketball team who were victorious in their game yesterday against Our Lady of Fatima. Good luck to our 7th grade team in today's game against Roosevelt in the second round of the Prescott Tournament.

 

Operation-9-2-99 - River clean-up in Modesto with the Otter Club and Mr. Ruiz this Saturday from 9:00 to noon. See Mr. Ruiz for details.

Attendance Matters - All Day, Every Day - As winter weather approaches, it is important that you utilize good habits to prevent the spread of germs that may cause the flu, including regularly washing your hands, covering your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, and avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

 

ETA Club Meeting - The ETA Club meeting has been changed to the Student Services Office due to having 2 different lunch times. DO NOT REPORT TO ROOM 29!  The meeting will take place the first 10 minutes of lunch. Anyone going on the field trip should attend.

 

CELDT - the following students need to report to room 21 at the beginning of 8th period to complete their CELDT Test:  Andrea Vargas, Juan Pablo Sanchez and Damien Tamraz

Recycling Fact - Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth can save three or four gallons of water per person, per day.  A hot water faucet that leaks one drop every second can add up to 165 gallons in only one month. That's more than one person uses in two weeks!


Safety Drill -  Today we will be having a safety drill to prepare our school for a possible lockdown.  All students are expected to participate and to listen to their teachers’ instructions.  

 

DMS Bands - Great job to members of our 6th - 8th Bands and members of our Jazz Band who put on a wonderful performance last night in their concerts in the DMS gym.

 

Sports - Congratulations to our 7th grade girls basketball team who won their opening round game of the Prescott Basketball tournament with their win over Creekside. Good luck to our 8th grade team who also plays Creekside today in their opening round game. Come out and support our 6th grade girls basketball team in their game today against Our Lady of Fatima.

 

Garden Club - Garden Club will be meeting today, Wednesday, instead of tomorrow.  We need to get onions in the ground ASAP.  Thanks for the onions, Ms. Martelli! No Garden Club tomorrow.

6th Grade Band-  Be in the gym at 4:30 today with your instrument and music, wearing black/dark clothes. The concert starts at 5:00.

 

7th-8th Grade Band and Jazz-  Be in the gym at 6:00 today with instrument and music, wearing your highlighter shirt and dark pants or skirt. The concert starts at 6:30.

6th Grade Parent/Teacher Conferences : This week all 6th grade students will be released at 12:15 pm every day for parent/teacher conferences. Today, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 6th grade students will have a separate lunch from the 7th and 8th grade students. Since classes will be in session, 6th grade students will need to stay in the cafeteria or the grass area in front of the Student Service’s office during their lunch.

 

ETA Club: ETA Club meeting this Wednesday in Room 29, PA Room. Make sure you are there if you’re going on the field trip.

Boys Basketball Sign-Ups: Sign-ups for 7th and 8th grade boys basketball will take place today at the boy’s locker room. Tryouts for 8th grade will take place on Tuesday, November 14th. Tryouts for 7th grade will take place on Wednesday, November 15th. Sign-ups for 6th grade boys basketball will occur after the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Recycling Fact: Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to listen to a full album of music on your smart-phone or saves enough energy to keep a 100-watt light bulb burning for about four hours. It can also run your TV for 3 hours. Recycling 100 cans could light your bedroom for two weeks.

BOX TOPS – Don’t forget to turn in your Box Tops for Education!  Please cut them out and place them in a baggie or envelope labeled with the name of your homeroom teacher.  There is a box in the office for collecting or you can put them in Mrs. Olguin’s mailbox in the staff room.  The class that has collected the most Box Tops at the end of the quarter will win a doughnut party.
